The Fort Myers native and former Florida State star is the only athlete to play in the Super Bowl and the World Series. A tenacious cover corner, Prime Time picked off 48 passes during his NFL career. In nine seasons as a big league outfielder, he hit .263 and stole 186 bases.
Emmitt Smith, Football player
The Arizona Cardinals' running back is the NFL's alltime leading rusher, with 17,418 yards. He won three Super Bowl rings with the Dallas Cowboys and was the 1993 league MVP. Smith, from Pensacola, set 58 school records in three seasons at the University of Florida.
Steve Carlton, Baseball player
The four-time Cy Young Award winner from Miami ranks second in strikeouts (4,136) and wins by a lefthander (329). He pitched in four World Series for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies, and in 1972 he accounted for 27 of the Phillies' 59 wins.
Chris Evert, Tennis player
The Fort Lauderdale native won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, including at least one each year from 1974 through '86. She reached the finals in 76% of her pro tournaments, was ranked No. 1 in the world on five occasions and won 157 singles events—second alltime.
Bob Hayes, Football player, sprinter
Bullet Bob is the only athlete to win a Super Bowl and an Olympic individual-event gold medal. The Jacksonville native took gold in the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay at the 1964 Olympics. In 11 seasons as a Dallas Cowboy, Hayes averaged 20.3 yards per catch.
