MLS players in spotlight against Tunisia

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) -- United States national team coach Bruce Arena will use a squad comprised almost entirely of Major League Soccer players for Sunday's friendly against Tunisia at Legion Field.

Sixteen of the 18 players on the roster are from the MLS and 13 have 15 or fewer appearances with the national team.

Striker Brian McBride, the 10th player in U.S. history to score at least 10 international goals, is expected to be in the lineup. He has played 38 international matches and scored his 10th goal against Colombia in last month's Gold Cup tournament.

First-string goalkeeper Kasey Keller -- who probably wouldn't have been called in anyway -- is sidelined with a dislocated collarbone suffered with Rayo Vallecano of the Spanish League. He is expected to miss up to a month.

Tunisia, the runner-up at the 1996 African Nations Cup, finished fourth in this year's edition and will make its first full international appearance against the United States. The two nations met at the 1996 Olympics, a tournament made up mostly of under-23 internationals. That match also was played in Birmingham, with the home side winning, 2-0.

Tunisia's offense is led by 19-year-old Ali Zitouni, Zoubeir Baya and SC Freiburg's Adel Sellimi, one of the leading scorers in the German Bundesliga this season.

Last year, Tunisia recorded seven wins -- all by shutouts -- along with two losses and a draw.
