INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Kenyan runner George Towett has won the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon with an unofficial time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, 8 seconds.

Towett says the conditions were tough.

Many of the 35,000 runners in the Indianapolis race struggled with humid conditions.

Around 10:15 a.m., nearly three hours after the race began Saturday, officials put up a yellow caution flag as temperatures and humidity began to rise. Some runners including women's champion Lillian Mariita of Hebron, Ky., received medical assistance. Mariita finished in 1:15.22.

Kenyan runners have won the race 16 times in 17 years.
