SAINT-FELICIEN, France (AP) - Daniel Moreno Fernandez of Spain led a late breakaway on an uphill finish to win Tuesday's second stage of the Criterium du Dauphine, while Bradley Wiggins of Britain retained the overall lead.

Fernandez sprinted from the group to edge French pair Julien Simon and Tony Gallopin by a few lengths.

Four cyclists had earlier led in the 99-mile ride from Lamastre to Saint-Felicien, but the pack reeled them in during the final few miles.

Wiggins finished ninth in a trailing pack, all with a time of 4 hours, 2 minutes, 38 seconds. Overall, he leads Tour de France champion Cadel Evans of Australia by 1 second.

The Criterium du Dauphine is preparation for the Tour, which begins June 30.
